Welcome to Friday’s Family Fun Blog Hop – so glad you could join me!!
Have you heard the statement – the family that prays together, stays together? Well I want to take that one step further and add, the family that prays AND plays together, stays together.
What is it that provides a sense of family? Many things contribute, but none so much as the tradition of time. It is not enough to take time to be a family just on holidays or when it is convenient. You have to let the people in your family know they are special by making, looking forward to, and keeping a series of scheduled social “just for fun” engagements. This special time set apart allows everyone to bond with the others, not only in the activity planned, but also in the anticipation of that special time. Dad needs to be a part of these family fun times too!!
I believe if you want to draw the hearts of your family closer, you will have to provide a minimum of one special time each week that is entirely theirs – time you plan, schedule, and defend at all costs against any activities that would steal away from you those special moments.
Friday’s Family Fun blog hop is the place for you to share your family’s special times with others. I am hoping that what is written here will inspire you to continue in this special time with your family and inspire others to take up the challenge to spend time playing with their family every week…maybe even every day!!!
So here is my very first Friday’s Famiily fun post…
As Special man is away in the Solomon Islands, our Family Fun time this week did not include our Daddy person, but we still didn’t want to miss out on the fun.
Berenstain Bears is a favourite of my kids at the moment and in some of the books/videos brother bear and sister bear play baseball. Hence baseball, has become the flavour of the month.
Yesterday we decided to play baseball together. I was the pitcher (so everyone could actually have a chance to hit the ball – Special son prefers to show how fast he can throw the ball, rather than think of helping others to actually hit the ball).
We decided it would be tipsy run.
To be honest with you, I haven’t had so much for a long while.
Princess Joybug took to the plate, adopting her Miss Grizzle face (I so wish I had a photo to show you), she furrowed her brow, to show us her determination to smash that ball out of the ball park - it was hilarious. She did of course do some pretty legendary swings and misses, but always made sure she chased the ball wherever it went, swinging wildly until she came in contact. Then she took off around the bases.
This running meant Princess Curly tops would take off running too – not really sure of which direction she was going, or where she was supposed to be running to, she basically just ran in and around all of the fielders and runners, inhibiting any chance of tagging the hitter – what a laugh!!!!!
One of my highlights was also Princess Curly tops’ base running. Her running direction was basically anywhere she could go to run away from the ball. It may have included touching a base, it may have included running all over the yard, but always ended with her on home base jumping up and down “yaying” herself for her fine effort
. Precious moments!!!!! May I add, that her base running only began after she had gone and retrieved the ball that she had just hit :) Oh to be three!!!!
Pitching was of course taken very seriously – we made sure that we did a series of pitching signs before every pitch – meaning something to someone
and bringing lots of smiles. Mummy the Magnificent will definitely pitching for the Major League soon I’m sure!
My last round of pitching was made rather difficult due to Princess Curly tops new fielding position. She decided to stand behind me (more like under me) with her head poking out between my legs.
. She never caught any balls, but she did catch my heart!!!
We may have only achieved one out in the entire game, when Special son and I managed to work together and tag Princess Joy Bug, but we did achieve having a very special time together. Each one of us enjoying each others company and valuing each other’s differences. Our focus was not competition, but having fun.
Did we achieve our aim?
Special son’s first comment this morning – Mum, when are we going to play baseball together again?
I think we did
