Well welcome to my very first installment in the Monday’s Mothering Moments Blog Hop.  A place to share all of those little things that happen just because you have the priviledge of being a mum.  If you’d like to join me just click here and it will take you to my post that explains everything.

This weeks mothering moment…

Yesterday we went out for a walk as a family.  Special man and Princess Joy Bug were playing tag and during this game, Princess Joy Bug managed to casplat herself on the rocks, resulting in a scratch along the underside of her arm and a skinned knee.  She was quite melodramatic about the whole affair.

Anyway… hours later, when we were sitting around the lunch table she was still complaining about the scratch on her arm and how much it was hurting and she said that none of us could understand just how much it was hurting.

Special Man then launched into a story about the time he cut off the top of his finger and sliced his hand (this required many stitches and time off work – he cut it with the router).  Princess Joy Bug’s pout increased.  I then said that I had had three cuts in my tummy (c sections) and I didn’t complain.

“Yeah she said…but yours didn’t sting!!!”

LOL

Happy Mothering…

In my life this week…

Special Man is back!!!!!!  This has made for a great week, no matter what else happened.  He came home on Monday night.  The flight landed early – yay!!!  But customs took 2 hours to get through – :(.  It was like an anticlimax.  2 weeks of waiting, then the excitement of thinking he will be out soon, then the very long dragged out “is he ever going to come out the door” feeling.

We have this family saying, that no matter where we are Special Man will always be the last one to leave.  It happens regularly at church – we are the last to leave.  Well there were 30 people from our church who went to the fly and build and yep, you guessed it, Special Man was the last one out of customs :).

Since he has come back, life is now more normal again.  You can almost taste the peacefulness that has decended.  We have spent the week enjoying each other’s company.

Despite it’s ups and downs – this week has been a good week!!

In our homeschool this week…

We are currently still on holidays, so homeschool is on hold.  I should have been planning our next unit of work, but that is what the weekend will be for.

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We spent Easter with my parents.  We saw my brother and sister and the kids had a chance to play with their cousins.  It was a great weekend.  My mum spoiled us rotten.  The joy of the days made up for the nightmare of the nights.  Special Son is still suffering from a nasty cough, so the night season is quite busy.  On our last night, very early in the morning, not long after I had gone back to the sleep from a visit to Special Son, I hear this cry from Princess Curly Tops – “My bed is broken and my pillow has gone all soft”.  She had managed to roll into the crack between her bed and Princess Joy Bug’s bed and was laying on the pillow that my mum had placed in there just incase she did fall out.  It was quite funny (in hindsight).  It did however wake up the other two and our very early morning began!

My favorite thing this week was…

Heading out to two night meetings at church.  Even though these were just planning meetings, the people on the committee are full of fun and we have laughed our way through all of the decisions.  Very joyful.

What’s working/not working for us…

Holidays are working great :), may there be more of them :).

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

I am hoping to include piano lessons for my kids this term.  Just wondering how/when you guys schedule this in – both the lesson and the practice sessions?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

I have started a couple of blog hops myself – they are very much at the beginning stage, so I would really love you to help me get them off the ground.  The links are below.  Please check them out and link up!!

My waking thoughts were…

“My legs are aching!”

It was so bad it woke me up.  Don’t worry – Special Man to the rescue, he came and massaged them back to normality.  What a man!!!

The first thing I did today was…

Chat and chat and chat to Special man.  This was only his second morning home after two weeks away.  It was so nice to be able to spend a little face to face time together.

Today I wished I hadn’t…

Welcomed the day in at midnight.  Special Son is suffering with a nasty bought of bronchitis at the moment and so spent most of the night coughing up a lung.  Poor little guy.  Subsequently we got to see quite a lot of each other during the night season.

It’s amazing – just when you think you just cannot get up again, you manage to pull yourself out from under the covers to rescue the needy.  It’s at times like this I look around for the mother, and realise (with a sigh) that the mother is me!!!

Today I most needed God when…

I was out at a meeting.  It was nice to pause and hear His voice guiding my input.  I tend to be very impulsive and sometimes say things I regret later, but tonight I sensed God’s presence in a special way and there were times that I paused to ask Him when I should speak.  I enjoyed His guidance!

Today’s special moment…

Going out with just Special Son and me.  With three kids and a very busy husband these sort of events don’t happen very often, but today Special Son and I got to enjoy each other’s company for 2 uninterrupted hours (during daylight, which is always a good thing :)).  After we left the chemist, we walked arm in arm back to the car – it is a moment I will cherish forever!!

5 things I accomplished today…

  • Made spinach and “cheese” sausage rolls using unleavened bread as the pastry – they were yummy
  • Took Special Son to the doctor
  • Thought through various roles for the nominating committee report
  • Finally posted out an order (sorry patient customer)
  • Went out by myself to a meeting at night

A photo from today…

Although this photo wasn’t taken today, I discovered it today. It is of my Special man welding over at the Solomons – spot the dry spot.

My thought for today…

Prayer is not asking for what you think you want, but asking to be changed in ways you can’t imagine

Join me on the Journey

In my life this week…

This week I am doing the single mother thing.  Special man has gone away on a Fly and build to the Solomon Islands, so it’s just me and the kids.  We managed to get back to swimming lessons on Tuesday, but have spent the last two days back at the doctor – we are still fighting off these bugs that have bugged us for the last month or so.

In our homeschool this week…

As this is the last week of school before the Easter holidays, we are finishing lots of things off.  Special Son is completing his Powerpoint presentation of the Continents and Princess Joy Bug is putting the finishing touches on her text innovation.  We have also been reading and discussing Habitat destruction and what we can do to prevent it.  They say that Education is the beginning to putting an end to the destruction of our wildlife, and after this term, I can see just how powerful information can be in changing hearts.  One fact we learned yesterday – Rainforest the size of a football field is cleared every minute globally – scary stuff!!!!!!!

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…

We went to swimming lessons on Tuesday.  We haven’t been for 2 weeks due to everyone being sick.  It’s a fantastic place!  I am amazed at how much the kids have improved in such a short time.  Tuesday was their last lesson – we’ll begin again in October when it gets warm again.  My mother came to swimming lessons with us, the kids really enjoyed showing her their newly developed skills.

My favorite thing this week was…

Playing baseball with my kids in the backyard. I’ve recorded it in more detail here.

What’s working/not working for us…

Covering every curriculum area- things like LOTE just seem to slip through the cracks.  How do you manage?

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have…

What is your routine?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…

I have just started up my own Blog hop (well I’m planning to do one for each day…I’ll keep you posted :)).  Here is the link to my first one – Thursday’s Thoughts, a day in my life.  If you click here it will take you to an explanation.  Basically it’s very similar to the homeschool journey, only it’s questions about one day in your life.  I’d love for you to join me!!!!

Have a great day!!!

Welcome to Friday’s Family Fun Blog Hop – so glad you could join me!!

Have you heard the statement – the family that prays together, stays together?  Well I want to take that one step further and add, the family that prays  AND plays together, stays together.

What is it that provides a sense of family?  Many things contribute, but none so much as the tradition of time.  It is not enough to take time to be a family just on holidays or when it is convenient.  You have to let the people in your family know they are special by making, looking forward to, and keeping a series of scheduled social “just for fun” engagements.  This special time set apart allows everyone to bond with the others, not only in the activity planned, but also in the anticipation  of that special time.   Dad needs to be a part of these family fun times too!!

I believe if you want to draw the hearts of your family closer, you will have to provide a minimum of one special time each week that is entirely theirs – time you plan, schedule, and defend at all costs against any activities that would steal away from you those special moments.

Friday’s Family Fun blog hop is the place for you to share your family’s special times with others.  I am hoping that what is written here will inspire you to continue in this special time with your family and inspire others to take up the challenge to spend time playing with their family every week…maybe even every day!!!

So here is my very first Friday’s Famiily fun post…

As Special man is away in the Solomon Islands, our Family Fun time this week did not include our Daddy person, but we still didn’t want to miss out on the fun.

Berenstain Bears is a favourite of my kids at the moment and in some of the books/videos brother bear and sister bear play baseball.  Hence baseball, has become the flavour of the month.

Yesterday we decided to play baseball together.  I was the pitcher (so everyone could actually have a chance to hit the ball – Special son prefers to show how fast he can throw the ball, rather than think of helping others to actually hit the ball).

We decided it would be tipsy run.

To be honest with you, I haven’t had so much for a long while.

Princess Joybug took to the plate, adopting her Miss Grizzle face (I so wish I had a photo to show you), she furrowed her brow, to show us her determination to smash that ball out of the ball park – it was hilarious.  She did of course do some pretty legendary swings and misses, but always made sure she chased the ball wherever it went, swinging wildly until she came in contact.  Then she took off around the bases.

This running meant Princess Curly tops would take off running too – not really sure of which direction she was going, or where she was supposed to be running to, she basically just ran in and around all of the fielders and runners, inhibiting any chance of tagging the hitter – what a laugh!!!!!

One of my highlights was also Princess Curly tops’ base running.  Her running direction was basically anywhere she could go to run away from the ball.  It may have included touching a base, it may have included running all over the yard, but always ended with her on home base jumping up and down “yaying” herself for her fine effort :).  Precious moments!!!!!  May I add, that her base running only began after she had gone and retrieved the ball that she had just hit 🙂  Oh to be three!!!!

Pitching was of course taken very seriously – we made sure that we did a series of pitching signs before every pitch – meaning something to someone 🙂 and bringing lots of smiles.  Mummy the Magnificent will definitely pitching for the Major League soon I’m sure!

My last round of pitching was made rather difficult due to Princess Curly tops new fielding position.  She decided to stand behind me (more like under me) with her head poking out between my legs.  :).  She never caught any balls, but she did catch my heart!!!

We may have only achieved one out in the entire game, when Special son and I managed to work together and tag Princess Joy Bug, but we did achieve having a very special time together.  Each one of us enjoying each others company and valuing each other’s differences.  Our focus was not competition, but having fun.

Did we achieve our aim?

Special son’s first comment this morning – Mum, when are we going to play baseball together again?

I think we did :).

Why not share some of your family fun days with us too.  Just follow the links below to share with us.

Have a great day!!
